The Pacific

This map is on Lee's Oblated Stereographic projection. The map was first published by the New Zealand Department of Lands and Survey in 1974, but has been out of print for about forty years. It has considerably less distortion over the Pacific Ocean than the more common Mercator projection.

This map was recreated loosely based around the original map using the Generic Mapping Tools. Topography data are from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission and bathymetry data are from General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans.
